From The Publisher*Dogs: humans' best friend, and for good reason. Dogs are loyal, smart, friendly and cuddly creatures that we love to welcome into our familes. In this book you will learn many facts about dogs with over 80 full-colour pictures for young learners to enjoy again and again: Dogs are great smellers! Their noses are 10,000–100,000 times more powerful than ours. They can help detect sicknesses such as diabetes or cancer, or help the police find illegal drugs or trapped people. Dogs are smart! The smartest breeds of dogs can understand up to 250 words and are as smart as a two-year-old child. Dogs are friendly! Dogs feel some of the same things as people and get stressed or happy when their owners are. Dogs are cool! There are over 200 different breeds of dogs. They can be as small as 1 kg or as big as 68 kg.
Biographical NoteWendy Pirk has been an animal lover for as long as she can remember. As a child, she dreamed of being a veterinarian but decided instead to pursue a degree in Ecological Anthropology. She is a serious environmentalist and has worked for the Western Canada Wilderness Committee. She is currently a writer and editor and has several books about animals to her credit. Wendy has a two dog and two cat family…oh, and kids as well. She solemnly swears that she has never, nor will she ever dress a dog in a frilly pink tutu. But she lives in a winter city, so maybe doggie coats and booties?? And one of the dogs is handicapped, so he has a wheelchair. But that's it. Really. She would also like to own a sheep to mow her lawn so she doesn't have to…well, she'd actually like to have a whole herd of sheep to rent out to her friends and neighbors! And maybe a donkey, too, because they're so cute!
