Meditation for Beginners offers the central trainings and teachings found in the best Buddhist monasteries translated for Western society. In Meditation for Beginnings, you will find some of the simplest and most universal of the practices of meditation-in particular, the practices of mindfulness and lovingkindness.
The point of these teachings has nothing to do with becoming a Buddhist, or learning any Eastern ceremonies or rituals or bowing. The point is that you learn how to work with meditation in order to find benefits from it in your life. When we take time to quiet ourselves, we can all sense that our lives could be lived with greater compassion and greater wakefulness. To meditate is to support this inner potential and allow it to come forth into our lives.
|From The Publisher*||Over the past decade, the number of Buddhist meditation centers in the U.S. has more than doubled. Many more meditators practice in the Christian,Jewish, transcendental, and other traditions. Until now, however, surprisingly few teaching aids have shown beginning practitioners the most fundamental techniques of meditation. Meditation for Beginners fills that niche - with clear, authentic instructions from one of America's most trusted and beloved teachers. Created specifically for beginners, this complete introduction to meditation features four classical mindfulness exercises. The vipassana, or insight, practice on which these are based is said to have originated with the Buddha himself - yet it lends itself gracefully to a wide range of spiritual traditions, both secular and religious. On Meditation for Beginners, Jack Kornfield teaches this ancient practice in its purest form, making meditation easy to understand and practice for even those with no previous experience or spiritual context. Clearly articulated and skillfully presented,Meditation for Beginners is designed to bring the peace and power of mindfulness into listener' everyday lives. It is the definitive resource for anyone who ever thought about learning to meditate, but lacked the information they needed to start.|
