VQA Beamsville Bench 12.9% alc./vol. / 750ml For Greg, Organized Crime's winemaker, the Pinot Gris is one of his favourite wines to assemble. That’s because it’s a blend of individual components that each have their own unique character. In 2019, about 75% of the fruit was de-stemmed and allowed to soak in contact with its skins for 24 hours. In doing this, we gently extract colour, flavour and aromatics giving us a much more interesting wine. The rest of the Pinot Gris was whole bunch pressed resulting in a very pure and elegant component. Half of the juice was fermented in various sized older oak vessels, and the rest in stainless steel using both wild and cultured yeasts. On the nose this Pinot Gris is all about cantaloupe, white peach and honeysuckle. The palate has some weight from the four months it spent resting on its lees, but it finishes clean with a refreshing streak of acidity that will be the hallmark of many 2019 Beamsville Bench wines. Juicy and fresh, yet layered and complex, this wine should appeal to just about anyone. It is worth noting that these bottles seem to empty rather quickly due to the extremely drinkable nature of this wine. Best to buy a case, it’s going to be a long year!
