From The Booth
If you know and like the comedy of Bo Burnham, this is a must-see film. If you don’t, ask your adolescent grandkid or Google him. Mr Burnham’s razor sharp wit fits perfectly with the story of Kayla (an amazing breakout performance by Elsie Fisher), struggling though her final year of middle school. It’s all there, from sexting requests to pool parties, back seat of the car invitations to active shooter in the school preparedness drills. If that all sounds too bizarre, welcome to adolescence in the 21st Century (and Mr Burnham’s comic domain). Writer/director Burnham has skilfully crafted a film that captures all the awkward, angst-ridden times of adolescence with sly humour and empathy. Highly Recommended.
