BLACK & WHITE
(and red) All Over
This is a show of BLACK things
and WHITE things,
and BLACK & WHITE things,
and some red things.
The intense contrast of BLACK & WHITE - light and dark, day and night, good and evil, yin and yang. And RED… love, anger, passion, fire and blood. These are colours that evoke strong emotions, and form the basis for powerful works of art.
BLACK & WHITE (and red) All Over is the fourth and last show of 2019, and the 26th show that I have curated for ART@ebar since January of 2016, and in my opinion it’s the strongest to date.
It is also, I believe, the largest ART@ebar show to date, with 64 artists, and 143 pieces.
The show features artists from Guelph and southern Ontario to as far as Banff, Alberta, and it is a very diverse show, with the subjects ranging from poetic and romantic, to disturbing and fearful. Dreamlike landscapes and organic patterns are seen in contrast to the stark geometries of human design. The joys of childhood and the beauty of nature are balanced by the looming climate crisis and the trauma of war. These are bold stories, with few grey areas in their interpretations.
Beyond subject matter, the show features an equally impressive array of mediums – acrylic, oil, and watercolour paintings, encaustic and cold wax, collage, several printmaking styles, photography (in turn printed on various materials), textiles, and several sculptural explorations in different media.
The work fills the walls of the eBar and will fill your mind and heart as well. It is a remarkable collection of talents, and nearly all of it is available for sale – please consider supporting our wonderful local arts community.
BLACK & WHITE (and red) All Over opens Tuesday October 8th from 8 until 10pm, and runs until January 11th, 2020.
