This is Melinda from the Bookshelf.
I would like to share with you some of the amazing events we have programmed in the Bookshelf's bookstore, the eBar & Greenroom (events venue) and the Cinema.
Here's me trying to remember just some of the things, while pretending to be comfortable on camera and referring to my notes like a pro! Anywho, since you're already on the website, make yourself at home, and check the events calendar for more information about the events I mention.
We are also showing some movies on the BIG SCREEN in the eBar. The next one we have planned is the 1952 musical sensation, Singin' in the Rain starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. We want to feature movies that need to be experienced on the BIG SCREEN; ones that have the audience up on their feet, singing and dancing along! Join us on Thursday, June 20th at 7pm and watch this movie the way it was intended to be seen. Oh, and free admission, so there's that.
This Sunday is Father's Day- and the Bookstore has a number of gift ideas for dad...
As always, the Cinema has some very interesting films playing... I'm most looking forward to director Kenneth Branagh's imagining of Shakespeare's retirement, All is True.
Tickets are $13 general admission, $10 members, seniors & students. The Cinema is licensed, so you can enjoy a glass of wine, or a cold beer while munching freshly popped popcorn smothered in real butter. The Box Office opens half an hour before showtimes and is cash only. Tickets are available in advance in the Bookstore, where you can use cash or credit.
Recently, we were honoured to have author, journalist, feminist, professor and speaker, Irshad Manji join us for a talk about her latest book, Don't Label Me. I'm told she specifically requested to have the Bookshelf included as a venue for her tour. Barb had the pleasure of hosting the conversation in the Cinema Space!
If you missed it, you can still pick up a signed copy of the book in store!
Anywho, all this to say: please keep an eye on our website and social media pages. There's so many interesting, culturally relevant, uplifting, insightful, entertaining, fun events happening all the time in all three of our remarkable venues.
