This month, we are approaching a significant day in Canadian history. On October 17th , recreational cannabis will be legalized for adults in Canada. Many will likely be relieved that they no longer need to hide their marijuana use--the end of prohibition is upon us. As such, The Bookshelf will be celebrating this landmark decision with food, victory speeches, an excellent DJ and, perhaps, a taste of Mother Nature’s bounty in a legally allowed area (Anywhere you can legally smoke tobacco)!
Music starts at 8:30 with Dj Todd Britton. Look forward to a Cannabis inspired playlist including Funk, Reggae, Hip hop, phish and the grateful dead. All your favorite weedy classics and high-time vibes. As Todd says "a playlist 20 years in the making"
I am not advocating that everybody come out, roll a huge joint and blaze themselves into oblivion; there are those who can do this happily and all the power to them. To all you cannabis users out there, as generally safe as cannabis is… it is a drug, please use common sense.
Amazing Caribbean inspired food will be cooked. An industry-leading expert (and Guelph local) will be giving a short speech.
Green Party Leader of Ontario Michael Schreiner will be on hand, with Liberal MP Lloyd Longfield sending his wishes from Ottawa.
Join us for a night of celebration, food, music, drink, and (possibly) a doobie. Tickets will be available for $10.00 at 10:00 am on Oct. 8th in the bookstore. We hope to see you out: get lit! BYOW ;)
