The Bookshelf is flattered to be included among some excellent bookstores across Canada as a destination to come and browse books or take in an interesting film. We work hard at bringing our customers interesting and unique cultural experiences. I can’t think of a better compliment than to be considered “dreamy” by Chatelaine magazine!
A lot of independent bookstores across Canada carry a similar mission: to provide their communities with a curated selection of Can lit, international gems, local faves, delectable cookbooks, and obscure poetry. Healthy independent bookstores are essential for a robust and stable Canadian book industry to exist. Having one or two big book retailers is inherently dangerous.
Please support your local bookstores, breweries, hardware stores, bike shops, clothing companies, restaurants... To us, this is what makes life interesting. Hard working people putting their own creative spice on industries that are highly competitive and making a go out of it--overcoming overwhelming odds and making it work. Cheers to the dreamers! You know who you are!
