Everett was a just a normal kid. He was 9 years and old loved baseball. He loved baseball because it was exciting. Everett had been playing baseball since he was 3. Everett tried playing all the positions and his favorite position was pitcher.
This year he thought he would try out for Rep. He had been working really hard and practicing every day. He thought he could make the team.
Tryout day finally came. It was a sunny day and he woke up very early and had a big breakfast. He practiced throwing pitched until it was time to go. His Dad took him to the tryouts. On the way there Dad said “do your best, I know you are going to make the team.” Everett was excited. He was ready to do his best. He had confidence and knew he was going to make it. It was Everett turn to tryout. He was going to show them how he pitched. He throws a 100 mph pitch and strikes the batter out. Little did Everett know that a Jays scout was watching the tryouts. At the end of the tryouts the Jays scout said to Everett “Do you want to be part of the Toronto Blue Jays, they would love to have you.”
Everett got so excited he fainted. Then his Dad found out about this and when Everett woke up he was in the car on his way to Toronto. The Jays needed him because they were losing badly. All the other pitchers were scared to go against the MVP for the Texas Rangers. They were scheduled to play against the Rangers in two weeks.
Training with the Jays was hard. Everett had to practice every day. He pitching, lifted weights and ran on tread mills. He was excited to meet and train with his new friends. He was most excited to Roberto Osuna. Osuna taught him how to control his fast ball and throw a curve ball.
Eventually it was the big day. Everett’s first game with the Jays. After two weeks are training he was ready to face the Texas Rangers. He throws a fast ball at the batter, the batter hits it and the ball flied back and hits his shoulder. Everett falls to the ground holding his shoulder and the crowd gasps. John Gibbons, the coach comes running out and asks if he is ok. Everett says “no not really, there is so much pain in my shoulder now.” Everett gets taken off field and the coach says “Osuna you are going to be his replacement.”
Everett has to go to the doctor and the doc says ‘‘you can’t play for two weeks. Because you sprained your arm’’. Everett feels sad that he can’t play and feels like he is letting his team down. Everett goes to physiotherapy and trains hard. He watches all the games from the dugout.
Finally it is the big game - game seven of the world series. Everett is back in the game. It is the 8th inning the score is 12-5 for the Jays. Everett takes the mount. The crowd cheers and does the wave. His first pitch is a fastball. “Strike one!” the empire said. Every batter up to bat strikes out. It is the 9th inning with 2 out, 2 strikes, 3 balls no man on base. The crowd is holding their breath excitedly. Last pitch of the game is a curveball ‘‘ball four walk” the empire said ‘‘what!’’ said Everett’s team. The coach challenged it the slow motion replay. The empire get together and watch the slow motion replays. The empire says… ‘‘strike!’’ Everybody watching yells excitedly ‘‘Yay!’’ The commentator says ‘‘and the Jays make history winning the world series!’’ The crowd goes wild and all the Jay come running out of the dugout. They pour water on Everett’s head and put him on their shoulders. Everett feels very happy and knows he is going to be a Jays player for a while.
